What is AWFISHNET?

African Women Fish Processors and Traders Network (AWFishNET) operates as a non-profit making, non-political and non-religious network that
brings together women fish processors and
traders from all over Africa.
AWFISHNET's goal is to contribute to improving the welfare, working conditions and income of women
in the fisheries sector (and especially women in
the post-harvest sector) within the member
states of the African Union.

Why AWFISHNET?

20 %

Women participate in the fisheries industry and 91.5% of those in  the industry are employed in post-harvest fishing-related activities making significant contribution to food security, livelihoods and household incomes. Yet, women remain marginalized within the sector, both in terms of their fishing-related activities and their role in decision-making processes.
